Cleburne Officer Shot During Chase; Suspect Dead in Burleson

A Cleburne police officer was shot in the leg Monday evening after a pursuit that began in Cleburne and ended near a Sam's Club on North Burleson Boulevard in Burleson. The officer was taken to a hospital and was last reported in stable condition. The suspect was shot and killed at the scene. According to NBC DFW, the chase started around 6:50 p.m. when officers responded to a call about someone brandishing a weapon. The suspect fled by vehicle, leading officers through Alvarado and north on I-35W before the confrontation ended in Burleson. Two Johnson County Sheriff's deputies were also involved in the incident. The Texas Rangers have taken over the investigation, as is standard in officer-involved shootings. Burleson police said there is no ongoing threat to the public. The identity of the suspect and the circumstances that led to the shooting have not been released.
