Johnson County commissioners to weigh tobacco ban, subcourthouse site

Johnson County Commissioners will meet Tuesday morning to discuss tobacco restrictions and subcourthouse expansion plans among other proposals.

Johnson County Commissioners Court meets at 9 a.m. Tuesday in Room 201 of the Johnson County Courthouse on North Main Street. According to Cleburne Times-Review, the agenda includes updated tobacco rules, an equipment purchase, and continued planning for a Precinct 3 subcourthouse. The proposed tobacco policy would ban smoking or burning tobacco products inside county buildings or within 25 feet of entrances. County Judge Chris Boedeker said the existing no-smoking rule needs updating to cover vape pens, e-cigarettes, and similar devices. Commissioners will also consider buying a bottom-dump maintenance trailer from Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers for up to $30,000. During the workshop, commissioners will review site plan ideas for the Precinct 3 subcourthouse and discuss proposed changes to subdivision rules and development services fees. State Sen. Phil King will attend to recognize Johnson County Sheriff's Office Reserve Officer Ron Russek for 30 years of service. Commissioners will also consider accepting a donated family history binder from Joe A. Lasater, intended for the Johnson County Historical Commission.
